You can register to vote or update your voter registration in just a few minutes. The last day to make changes online is October 15, 2024.
If you miss this deadline, don't worry—you can still register the same day you vote at your local polling place.
The general election will decide which candidates are elected to various offices. Generally, these candidates were nominated during the primary election held earlier this year.
This year’s election is a presidential election and voters will decide which candidate will be awarded Maryland’s 10 electoral votes.

With three ways to vote, it's good to have a plan. Use this checklist to make sure you're ready for Maryland's General Election.
The last day to register to vote or update your voter info online or by mail. Registrations being mailed must be postmarked by October 15, 2024.
For one entire week, you can cast your vote before election day at an early voting center. Polls are open from 7 am to 8 pm. As long as you're in line by 8 pm, you will be able to cast your vote.
By Tuesday | October 29, 2024If you want to receive your mail-in ballot via mail or fax, your request must be received (not just mailed) or submitted online by Tuesday, October 29, 2024.
Friday | November 1, 2024If you want to receive your mail-in ballot via email, you'll need to submit your request online by 11:59 pm, November 1, 2024.
Tuesday | November 5, 2024This is the final day you can cast a vote. Polls are open from 7 am to 8 pm. As long as you're in line by 8 pm, you will be able to cast your vote.
By or Before Tuesday | November 5, 2024You have two ways to return your mail-in ballot:
By mail: Make sure your mail-in ballot is postmarked by or before 8 pm on November 5, 2024. To make sure your ballot is counted, we recommend you return it as soon as you have filled it out.
By hand: You also have the option of hand-delivering your ballot to an approved drop box or local board of elections by 8 pm on election day.
Maryland’s early voting period allows you to participate in elections for a full week before election day.
You can vote in person on election day by going to your designated polling location.
Any registered voter may vote by mail. Be sure to request a mail-in ballot by the October 29, 2024 deadline.
In Maryland, "absentee voting" is called "mail-in voting," so follow these guidelines if you've voted "absentee" in the past.
Some voters may need to vote provisionally if the local board of elections is reviewing their eligibility. The provisional ballot application will be reviewed, and only the contests for which the voter is eligible will be counted, provided all criteria are met.
