A Florida motor vehicle bill of sale allows sellers to release interest in a vehicle so the buyer can transfer the title into their name. This legal document finalizes the transaction and gives the buyer the signed title after they pay for the vehicle.
The buyer must then transfer the completed vehicle bill of sale to a Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (HSMV) service center to their name.
Both the buyer and the seller are required to sign the document.
If the vehicle weighs more than 2,000 pounds, the sale requires VIN and Odometer Verification (Form HSMV 82042).
Vehicles new to Florida must be registered with the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) within 10 days of establishing residency.
For registration purposes, the metal plates must be attached to the vehicle (according to section 320.38, Florida Statutes), and a registration certificate must be presented (section 320.0605, Florida Statutes).
Registrations are valid until midnight on the owner’s birthday.
Vehicles must be registered in person at one of the local FLHSMV offices.
Registration can be renewed for a 12-month or 24-month period. It can be done online through FLHSMV’s GoRenew service, via the MyFlorida App, or in person at one of the motor vehicle service centers.
According to Section 320.07(4)(a), Florida Statutes, failing to renew registrations on the eleventh calendar day of the month succeeding the month in which it is due will result in a delinquent registration fee.
Use a Florida motor vehicle power of attorney if someone else acts on the buyer’s behalf.
